Candy Corn Cheese Tower (The Perfect Halloween Appetizer!)

The finished, impressive Candy Corn Cheese Tower being served as the centerpiece of a fun and sophisticated Halloween party.

A creative, no-bake appetizer that creates a giant, savory ‘Candy Corn Cheese Tower,’ perfect for a Halloween party centerpiece. This edible sculpture is constructed by stacking rectangular blocks of yellow and white Cheddar cheese, which are then carved into the shape of a piece of candy corn. The iconic white tip is formed from molded goat cheese, and the middle white cheddar section is cleverly ‘painted’ orange using a mixture of red wine and paprika. The impressive tower is served with an array of crackers.

Ingredients

  • Four 8-ounce rectangular blocks yellow Cheddar
  • Four 8-ounce rectangular blocks white Cheddar
  • 1 pound goat cheese
  • 2 tablespoons red wine
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • Crackers, for serving

Instructions

  1. Special Equipment: You may need skewers to temporarily hold the tower together. A pastry brush is needed for ‘painting.’
  2. On a cheese board, place 2 blocks of the yellow cheese side by side, pressing them together. Stack the remaining 2 blocks of yellow cheese on top of them.
  3. Stack the 4 blocks of white cheese on top of the yellow cheese base in the same manner. If needed, insert a couple of skewers down through the tower to hold it together while you work.
  4. Using a sharp knife, carefully carve away the sides of the cheese blocks to create the tapered shape of a candy corn.
  5. Once carved, remove the skewers. Using your hands, mold the goat cheese into a pointed tip and add it to the top of the cheese stack.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the red wine and paprika. Use a pastry brush to ‘paint’ this mixture onto the white Cheddar portion of the tower to create the orange middle section.
  7. Serve with crackers.

Notes

  • This is an impressive, no-bake centerpiece appetizer that relies on creative carving and ‘painting’ for its theme.
  • Using rectangular blocks of cheese is essential for easy stacking and carving.
  • The recipe suggests reserving the cheese scraps for another use, such as making a cheese sauce or grilled cheese sandwiches.
  • The tower can be assembled and carved ahead of time, but the ‘painting’ should be done closer to serving time.
