Minister’s Delight (Easy Slow Cooker Fruit Cobbler)

Make a comforting Minister’s Delight! This incredibly easy slow cooker dessert features fruit pie filling topped with a buttery cake mix crumble and optional walnuts.

Ingredients

(Based on 1x column)

  • ▢ 1 can (21 ounces) cherry or apple pie filling
  • ▢ 1 package yellow cake mix (regular size, approx. 15.25 oz), dry mix only
  • ▢ 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • ▢ 1/3 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Optional for Serving:

  • ▢ Vanilla ice cream or sweetened whipped cream

Instructions

1. Prepare Slow Cooker and Fruit Layer:

  • Lightly grease the insert of your 1.5-quart slow cooker if desired (though often not strictly necessary if the pie filling is juicy).
  • Spoon the entire can of cherry or apple pie filling into the bottom of the prepared 1.5-quart slow cooker. Spread it out into an even layer.

2. Make Crumbly Topping and Assemble:

  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the dry yellow cake mix directly from the box with the ½ cup of melted butter.
  • Stir with a fork or spoon until the mixture is crumbly and the butter is evenly distributed throughout the cake mix. It will not form a smooth batter but rather a moist, crumbly mixture.
  • Sprinkle this cake mix and butter crumble mixture evenly over the top of the pie filling in the slow cooker.
  • If using, sprinkle the ⅓ cup of chopped walnuts evenly over the crumble topping.

3. Slow Cook:

  • Cover the slow cooker securely with its lid.
  • Cook on the LOW setting for 2-3 hours.
  • The Minister’s Delight is done when the pie filling is bubbly around the edges and the topping is cooked through (it will look set and cake-like, though likely still very moist).

4. Serve:

  • Turn off the slow cooker.
  • Serve the Minister’s Delight warm, scooped directly from the slow cooker into individual bowls.
  • It’s especially delicious topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of sweetened whipped cream, if desired. Enjoy this easy, comforting treat!
